Summer Break seemed so short, but in reality it was about 2 1/2 months long! That's long enough for a child to lose those great reading (and other academic) habits they worked so hard to gain all year long a school. Kids often lose up to 2 months of growth in reading (fluency and comprehension) and math during the summer months, but never fear, your child(ren)'s teachers are here to support your child and to support you!
At Buckner Elementary, we will ensure that we do everything we can to support your young reader, writer, mathematician, social scientist, scientist, and citizen. Your child's teacher values building relationships and then figuring out where your child is academically at this point in the year. They will ease each an every student back into reading and talking about books, problem solving, and life lessons.
Teachers will also keep you up-to-date through apps, newsletters, phone calls, and agendas so that YOU can do the same. One easy way to join on this new learning journey is to PLEASE have your child read EVERY night for 20 minutes. It matters. Please include them in your real-life math problem solving (at Kroger, Wal-Mart,, Target, or when cooking, telling time, counting coins, etc.) WE, educators and parents, are partners in this amazing and critical job of growing children- your children.
Thank you and know that we will all ride smoothly again! Happy Trails!
